We've Been Quiet for a Year. Here's Everything That Happened at ScoutsCapital.

ScoutsCapital went quiet for over a year to rebuild its app. Here's what changed: new profiles, premium for players and teams, and a careful Madrid rollout.

If you've wondered where ScoutsCapital went, the short answer is that we went back to the drawing board. For more than a year we've been rebuilding the ScoutsCapital app from the inside out, with a new look, profiles that are far easier to use, premium features for players and teams, a brand-new Arena and a careful start-of-season rollout in Madrid.

Our last post here went out in February 2025. The silence wasn't because nothing was happening. Almost everything was happening, and none of it was ready to show. This post is the quick tour of that year. Over the next seven weeks we'll go deeper into each part of the story, and every one of those posts will be linked back here as it goes live.

Why did ScoutsCapital go quiet?

We'll be honest, because you deserve that after a year of silence. We weren't happy with ScoutsCapital. The interface didn't look the way we wanted, and the platform wasn't as easy to use as we expected it to be. You could feel it moving between screens. Things worked, but they didn't feel right, and a football player profile only matters if players actually want to open it every week.

We could have kept posting updates about a product we weren't proud of. We chose to go quiet and fix it instead. If you scroll back through our older posts, like [Revolutionising Football Scouting with ScoutsCapital](https://scoutscapital.com/blog/revolutionizing-football-scouting-with-scoutscapital) or [Why We Rebuilt the ScoutsCapital Website](https://scoutscapital.com/blog/why-we-rebuilt-the-scoutscapital-website), you'll see an earlier version of us. Those posts stay up because they're part of the story, but the ScoutsCapital you'll find today is a different and much better product.

What changed in the ScoutsCapital app?

Nearly everything you touch. We redesigned every type of profile on the platform: player profiles, team profiles, general profiles, league pages and manager profiles. We also rebuilt trials from the ground up. For each one we asked the same four questions. Is it fast? Can you find your way around without thinking? Does it do what you expect when you tap it? Would a player show it to a teammate?

We also spent a lot of time on something nobody gets excited about, which is bugs. No app is ever bug-free, and anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't shipped one. Our goal was to get them down to a minimum before we put the platform in front of real teams. That meant testing every redesigned screen and fixing what broke, again and again.

The heart of ScoutsCapital hasn't changed. Every player gets a free football player profile: a personalised profile with personal stats that are unbiased, built from official match data rather than opinions or self-reported numbers. Grassroots football stats usually end up scattered or forgotten after the final whistle, and we wanted them to live somewhere that's yours. It's why people sometimes call us LinkedIn for footballers, except it's built around the game, the community and the fun of improving rather than a CV. What's changed is how good it now feels to use.

There's also something completely new, the Arena. It's a tab where players and teams can take on challenges and earn XP, which turns your football week into something you can progress through. The Arena deserves a full post of its own, so we'll save the details for that.

Building premium for players and teams

While the redesign was happening, we were building something alongside it: ScoutsCapital Premium for players and teams. Premium gives you access to far more data about your own game and your team's, going much deeper than the free profile. We'll explain exactly what's inside in a dedicated post in a few weeks.

What we can say is that a number of clubs have already been given access to premium profiles for their teams. That's a story for later in this series, once we can tell it properly.

The hardest part: letting go of perfect

The hardest stretch of the year wasn't technical. It was getting the look and usability of the product right, and for a long time we were chasing perfection. Every time we got close, we'd find something else to change. That felt like progress, but it kept the platform away from the people it was built for.

Eventually we accepted something we probably should have accepted sooner. Perfection doesn't exist in a product. What matters is a platform that works, looks good and is easy to use, and that keeps improving because real players and coaches are using it. So we changed what needed changing and stopped redesigning for the sake of it. From here, the people using ScoutsCapital decide what comes next, and usability comes first.

How is ScoutsCapital launching in Madrid this season?

Not with a big bang. Over the past months we've been talking with clubs and people across Madrid's grassroots game. Rather than a full-scale launch, we've opened ScoutsCapital at the start of the 2026/27 season to a group of teams, clubs and players who will use it for real and tell us what they think. Access is open now, on both the web app and the mobile app.

It's a deliberate choice. A slower, Madrid-first rollout lets us watch how the platform holds up on real matchdays across the amateur football leagues in Madrid, fix problems quickly and build features around what players and coaches actually need. Spain comes first, Madrid leads the way, and we'll grow from there.

What's coming next in this series

This post is the map, and the next thirteen are the territory. On Thursday we'll show you where ScoutsCapital stands today. After that we'll go back to how we got here, and explain why we started in Spain and Madrid and why the UK still matters to us. We'll cover why we rebuilt the app more than once and walk you through the new app and web app. We'll explain why we only use official match data, and properly introduce Premium.

The second half of the series tells the story of our first club and the partnerships that shaped our early years. We'll share the wins so far and introduce our 20 Founding Clubs programme, before closing with what's next for ScoutsCapital. Each post will be linked here as it goes live, so bookmark this page if you want the whole story in one place.
